Kanchenjunga is located along the India-Nepal border and is the third highest mountain in the world with an elevation of 8,586 meters (28,169 ft.). Also called "The Five Treasures of Snow" as it contains five peaks. Three of the five peaks – main, central, and south – are on the border of North Sikkim in India and Taplejung District of Nepal, while the other two are
completely in Taplejung District. The treasures represent the five repositories of God - gold, silver, gems, grain, holy books.
The mountain is considered as the part of Great Himalayan Range and one of the dangerous amongst the other mountain of the world. Tourist are attracted not only because of its scenic beauty and adventurous spot but also it holds a vital place in the mythology and religious ritual specially of the local inhabitants.
The first attempt to climb Kanchenjunga was in 1905 by a party led by Aleister Crowley and Dr. Jules Jacot-Guillarmod on the southwest side of the mountain.In 1998 Ginette Harrison became the first woman to summit. Kanchenjunga was the last 8,000-meter peak to be climbed by a woman.
